Conservation Biology (BIO375) is an upper-level course designed to grasp the concepts, operations, and impacts of biodiversity across Earth's biomes and geological periods, especially as it responds to antthropogenic interference. To put environmental conservation and research to practice, we proposed to build, or rather plant, a Monarch Butterfly Waystation— a plot of land hosting milkweed and native plants for Monarch Butterfly colonies to visit and utilize during their longitudinal seasonal migrations across North America.
My Team: Monarch Waystation Designation
Team Mission: My group researched to understand the material requirements and legal permits needed to register an official waystation with the Monarch Waystation Program. After mapping the NJIT campus, studying D. plexippus ecology, and considering logistics/maintenance, we selected the location for which the new garden would be planted.
